Thanks for Coming Out

Great To Be Here is a stand-up comedy line-up show with a difference, each of the performers is somewhere on the rainbow and their comedy is designed to be affirming of our lives and community or hit out against bigotry or both.

Our stories like our lives are mostly positive but in the hands of skilled comedians who understand their world, laughs can be found in many seemingly ordinary events and our cast are all experienced comedians who have experience finding the laughs in reality.

Like all comedy, our immediate aim is to entertain, but as affirming comedy, our aim is also to give people something to think about after the laughter.

Your cast includes:

Tristan Miller (They/Them), an American comedian and actor currently touring their solo comedy show about Bipolar Disorder to Aotearoa performing it in the NZ, Dunedin, and Nelson Fringe Festivals! . They can be seen on the television show Into The Wild Frontier later this year as well as the feature films Dominoes and Us And Ourselves.

Mama Z (She/Her) who knows what a simile is, and she likes your as! For Mama, what didn’t happen can be just as funny as everything that did. She may not always be happy, but she can only ever be gay. She pulls humour from the oddest of places, some of which might even be printable.

Julia Clement (She/Her) who first appeared on stage at the vernal equinox, 2015. At that time she was the only and since then she has been one of the very few male to female transgender stand-up comedians regularly performing in New Zealand. Julia’s material is heavily influenced by her transgender experience and her business card contains the motto “Laugh now, think later” as some material is deliberately challenging and while designed to make the audience laugh is also intended to hopefully make them think about the issues later.

Jess (She/Her), a rising star in the New Zealand comedy circuit, headlining GoodTimes Comedy Club, winning the YeahNah! Comedy competition and regularly working with the likes of Cori Gonzalez-Macuer, Tim Batt and No Homo Queer Comedy.

Her comedy hour LGBT...WHO?! was billed in the New Zealand International Comedy Festival 2022, and she was selected by the NZ Comedy Trust for their filmed ‘Ones To Watch’ showcase.

In July and August 2022 she performed back home in the UK for the first time, with highlights including a support spot for Ben Norris and bonding with 2021's BBC New Comedy Award Winner Anna Thomas. She also smashed a whirlwind few spots on queer and POC line-up shows at Edinburgh Fringe, while working remotely on her next show.

Her duo show GRIEF-SEX-RACE ran at the curated Q Theatre for Auckland Fringe Festival 2022 to rave reviews, and won the PANNZ touring award.

Also appearing are Auckland based comedians: Joe & Michelle.
