Where & When
Viewable the entirety of Auckland Pride Festival, from February 1st to 26th on the façade of Studio One Toi Tū
Making Art Public (MAP) is about making public art a part of people's everyday experience. This Auckland Pride Festival, Making Art Public is showcasing the work of artist Huriana Kopeke-Te Aho on the central location at 1 Ponsonby Road as Studio One Toi Tū continues to provide a space for artists and art lovers with a series of outdoor exhibitions during the seismic strengthening renovations. We're partnered with Phantom Billstickers, a supporter of the arts and trusted provider that produces and installs posters across Tāmaki Makaurau.
Huriana Kopeke-Te Aho (Tūhoe, Ngāti Porou, Rongowhakaata, Te Āti Haunui-a-Pāpārangi, Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngāi Tahu, Fale’ula) is a self-taught artist and illustrator whose work is primarily influenced by their Māori whakapapa, takatāpui identity, and political beliefs. At the centre of their artistic practice is a deep and fierce aroha/alofa for their people, and they aim to create imagery that speaks to the political and social struggles of their communities.
View the show at 1 Ponsonby Road between 22 January to 26 February 2023.
